Here are a few nifty tips and tricks for easy and handy networking on Facebook…

Ø To post in Hindi( or other language) on Facebook :

o Open new tab in the browser, and visit www.google.com/transliterate/

o This page is an editor, wherein on the top left corner one can specify the preferred language.

o Write the required text in the text area, for example: to write “shaadi” in hindi, chooseimage as language and type in shaadi followed by a space to make the change. The text changes to image.

o When the text is finished, select all the text, copy and paste to the Facebook status or comment box. Done.

 

Ø With the new changes in Facebook, while commenting, pressing Enter posts the comment. This has been to done to make commenting handier. But how can one now change the line while commenting? Well, it can be done by just pressing Shift+Enter each time you want a change in line while commenting.

 

Ø One of the changes has been with the slide-view of the pictures on Facebook, having black background. Most of the Facebook addicts didn’t like this, preferring the older way. Well, you can revert to previous way of viewing pictures by just pressing F5 when the picture opens in slide-view.

Be more secure on Facebook…

Facebook has become a very vital part of our life, wherein many of us post in some personal details and information, which we shall not at all want being leaked to someone who may tamper with them. Hence, social networking needs some attention from us to be meticulous about its security. Herein, I have dealt with few new features that Facebook have incorporated recently to make it more secure.

Use HTTPS instead of HTTP

HTTP(Hypertext transfer protocol) is a networking protocol—a set of rules—for communication over the World Wide Web. HTTPS is a secure version of HTTP. It stands for the same thing, while the S represents secure.

    1. Visit your Account Sections page
    2. Click on change beside Account Security section
    3. Check the checkbox to enable https… and click on Save button.

We have come a long way in the 63 years since we have gained independence. Yet, there are a number of challenges for us lying ahead which seek immediate attention. One of them being our dearth for alternative energy sources owing to the inefficiency of the current energy supply for the billion population.

India has an estimated power requirement between 800,000 MW and 950,000MW by 2030. To help India meet its gigantic future energy requirements, the Prime Minister has expressed the need to develop public private partnerships in ways and means to meet the estimated Rs.60, 000 billion ($1.2 trillion) investment required over next 25 years to provide electricity to consumers at affordable cost.

Solution: CAPP

The limited supplies, uneven distribution, and rising costs of fossil fuels, such as oil and gas, create a need to change to more sustainable energy sources in the foreseeable future. Pointing out that India is short of energy resources like oil, gas and uranium and even coal is not as abundant as is generally believed, there is a high focus on search for alternative sources and their efficient usage and supply. Hence over the coming decades one of India’s greatest challenge will be to secure diversified sources of energy and harnessing them as CAPP (Cheap and Portable Power).

Conserve: We need to conserve the non-renewable resources such that they last longer, or get time to be replenished for future availability.

Sun, Wind, Water: There is a high focus for abundant renewable sources like solar, biomass, wind, hydro, and so forth. In a country like India with extreme summers, the potential for harnessing solar energy is great. If only the cost of the photovoltaic (PV) units get more lessened, solar power will become more widespread. Though not as abundant as the solar, the wind energy is also viable in India. Innovations are required such that these abundant sources are better utilized.

Sonoluminescence: A strange word, indeed, but can emerge to be very promising if only we could come by a way to use it out. This is the process of using ultrasonic sound (sono) to excite bubbles in a liquid such that they implode and produce small bursts

Sonoluminescence can occur when a sound wave of sufficient intensity induces a gaseous cavity within a liquid to collapse quickly. This cavity may take the form of a pre-existing bubble, or may be generated through a process known as cavitation. Sonoluminescence in the laboratory can be made to be stable, so that a single bubble will expand and collapse over and over again in a periodic fashion, emitting a burst of light each time it collapses. For this to occur, a standing acoustic wave is set up within a liquid, and the bubble will sit at a pressure anti-node of the standing wave. The frequencies of resonance depend on the shape and size of the container in which the bubble is contained.

The Mechanism

The mechanism of this phenomenon is still unsettled. Theories include: hotspot, bremsstrahlung radiation, collision-induced radiation and corona discharges, nonclassical light, proton tunnelling, electrodynamic jets and fractoluminescent jets (now largely discredited due to contrary experimental evidence).

•          Subsequent compression forces the bubbles to rapidly collapse and emit light.

An important factor is that the bubble contains mainly inert noble gas such as argon or xenon (air contains about 1% argon, and the amount dissolved in water is too great; for sonoluminescence to occur, the concentration must be reduced to 20–40% of its equilibrium value) and varying amounts of water vapour. Chemical reactions cause nitrogen and oxygen to be removed from the bubble after about one hundred expansion-collapse cycles.

During bubble collapse, the inertia of the surrounding water causes high pressure and high temperature, reaching around 10,000 Kelvin in the interior of the bubble, causing the ionization of a small fraction of the noble gas present. The centre of such a bubble may be even more astonishingly hot. This description is simplified from the original literature, which details various steps of differing duration from 15 microseconds (expansion) to 100 picoseconds (emission).

What makes the bubbles light up?

As for predictive models there are several models that predict many different aspects of sonoluminescence including bubble geometry, temperature distribution within the bubble, and the spectra of the light emitted from the bubble.

where ρ is the density of the liquid and v is the velocity amplitude produced by the sound wave. If the wavelength of the sonoluminescence is 200 nm the energy of a photon is

which is about 12 orders of magnitude larger than the acoustic energy afforded an atom.

Sonoluminescence is poorly understood because the spatial extent of the event is on the order of a micron and the time scale is only a few nanoseconds. MBSL (multi-bubble sonoluminescence) makes this even more difficult because of the large number of randomly growing and collapsing bubbles.

The Conclusion

It might not sound like much, but the process used can theoretically solve the cold fusion problem. In a nutshell, if you pass high frequency sound wave (between 20 and 40 kHz) through a liquid that has air bubbles, the sound waves causes the bubbles to contract suddenly, and briefly produce temperatures hotter than the surface of the sun at the centre of the bubbles. That’s hot enough to start a ”fusion” reaction, and is contained in a relatively ”cold” surrounding.

Someone has very aptly said that the best camera is the one you have. Most of our day to day incidents are worth capturing, but it is not possible to carry your bulky SLRs wherever you go. You can take very good photographs with even the 3.2MP camera phone you have got with yourself. The depiction of sense and mood behind a photograph is much important than the quality or MP-counts of it. Here are some of the tips you can work upon for some great masterpieces from your own camera-phone.

1.Lights : Special attention should be paid to the conditions around and since you cant rely  on the flash of your phone, you should take care of proper placement of your camera phone and the object or person being photographed. Shadows and shines must be avoided to ensure that the photograph depicts reality to greater extent.Optimum amount of light is important.

2. Settings : After proper analysis of the conditions of natural lighting, you need to tweak whatever settings available to ensure that the photograph satisfies your liking. Its not a good practice to continue capturing photos in the automatic mode. External hardware tweaks are very assisting for great shots, for instance, placing the lens of an old CD/DVD player makes capturing macro shots possible, or placing colour filters in front of your camera phone lens help naturalize the color tone of the photos. Thus it is experiments that make you shot some really good masterpieces.

3. Stability : Stability is a very important factor. Specially when you increase the ISO sensitivity, e.g. in the night mode, a shaky hand may lead to hazy pictures. The stability of your phone is very important for your photos to be crisp and sharp. This can be achieved by  having a support for your arm while you are taking the shot. Best stability is possible through use of tripod stands. If your phone has touchscreen, a slight touch on the capture icon on the screen provides better stability than pressing the camera button.

4. Never zoom in your photograph : The camera phones have generally digital zoom, which has a very great disadvantage. Compared to optical zoom, digital zoom leads to shortening the size of the photograph. Its better not to use digital zoom, because when you edit that picture on photoshop or gimp or any other related photo-editing softwares, you always have the option to concentrate on the particular portion you wanted to zoom into.

5. Don’t do much of photo-editing : Its very clear that the photos you took from your camera phone are not of great quality. Hence its advisable to let them depict reality to greater extent. Hence its better not to mask them up much with those tools to make it lose its originality. Such photos shall make a distinct genre of themselves.

Blogging can be more than just a personal story-telling experience.But there’s no mantra to get you famous as a successful blogger, but, yes, there are tips to follow if you want to make a mark, or maybe, make a earning as well.

Here’s a very basic yet powerful tip for those of you who don’t know whether they have the skill to host a blog and interest its readers. You are on a social networking site, say Facebook, and chat and share thoughts with your friends. Well, they can be great readers for your initial steps… Start writing notes, or posting images( if you want to start a photo-blog), or videos(if Vblogs interests you), and tag your friends, and analyze what they comment. Do not give up in few trials if you dont receive positive comments. Perseverance is important. After about 25-30  posts, you are in a better position to judge whether you should start blogging or not.

Steps to write a note on facebook:
1..On your home page, on the left sidebar, there is a link “Notes”. Click on it.
2..On the page that appears, the right top corner has a button :” Write a note”. Click it.
3..Now you get your Edit Note page, where you type in the title. Next put in your content. Make sure its short and interesting. And then tag your friends, so that they know that you have written a note, and expect their comments.
4..Publish the note.

Write on anything you feel like, be it short plots, poetry, current trends, etc. Just put thoughts to words. Try to improve your writing note after note. And I assure you that this shall help you a lot with getting started with blogging. Comment on others posts, notes, photos to ensure that they will also comment on yours. Try writing on varied topics of your interest and compare the likes and comments. Over time  and use, it seems that the machine has started running sluggish. And you think of a re-installation of the Operating System(OS) once again… but this makes u reinstall all the applications once again and download all  the recent updates u lost. Here are some tips and tricks on how to keep that machine of yours trim and speedy…

1. Use Disk Defragmentation…

This utility comes with your OS preinstalled and can be found at imageStart–>All Programs—>Accessories—>System Tools—>Disk Defragmenter. The files on the hard disk are written in a very random manner. Over time this causes fragmentation of files which takes more time to be read by  the PC. This utility defragments those files, hence boosting the reading speed of the hard disk(HD).

2.Use CCleaner

CCleanericonThis application needs to be downloaded from the following site: www.ccleaner.com This is a free download and a great cleanup  tool. This utility cleans up the unwanted temporary files, cache,cookies, etc., the clustering of which hampers the performance of your PC. The programs which you uninstall, leaves behind their traces in the Registry. This hampers the Registry integrity. There is a “Scan for issues” button which scan such issues and once u fix them, your PC will be free of such issues. These issues are greatly responsible of the slowing down of PC after many days of use.

3. Take Security Precaution

Install a good antivirus solution. According to my experience, I have found that McAfee is the best solution if you have a system with lots of memory. For best performance at low memory consumption, AVG is a great solution. Never install any software from an untrusted site. They may have virus and Trojans that may infect your computer. These are one of the major contributors to the strangely slow machine because they run in background, consuming memory and even possibly revealing you private data secretly. Best is to install an antivirus and keep it updated time to time.

4. Clear up the Hard Disk(HD)

This requires that you have to give time to the organization of the data present on your HD. Music collections that you rarely listen, or pictures that are not more of interest must be transferred to a secondary storage such as DVDs and be deleted from your HD. Right-click on a disk partition in Windows Explorer, n then click on Properties. Under the General tab, click on the button Disk Cleanup. This utility scans the partition and suggests what are the stuffs that needs to be cleaned. Follow the wizard.

5. Regularly update Windows

imageEnable automatic updates. If you want to access Windows Update then follow Start—>All Programs—>Windows Update. Click on Check for updates. If any update is available, select and click next. They will be downloaded and installed.This ensures that latest drivers are present on your machine.

6. Remove abandoned software

You had once installed a trial version of a particular software and now it has expired. You cant use it but its still on your HD and the Registry. There are several software which you had installed just for trying and have now abandoned using it. These types of software deserve no place on your machine because they take up your precious memory, thereby reducing ur system’s performance. To uninstall these software, Go to Start—>Control Panel—>Programs and Features. You can now see the list of all installed programs. Select the unwanted program and right click on it and select Uninstall. For example, see the following window, clicking the Uninstall button will remove Adobe Media Player from my system.
